A new survey by Pew Research Center finds that, when it comes to parents who work full time, moms and lower-income families face distinct challenges

“We’re a female dominated profession,” says The Association’s Katherine M. Shenar, “but so many organizations still hold on to the belief that you should work as if you don’t have kids.”

To that end, a new study by Pew Research Center sheds new light on moms and lower-income families—and how the line between work and family is not always so clearly defined.

According to the early 2026 survey of 2,242 working parents:

•  70% take care of parenting-related tasks while they’re working
•  59% they take care of work-related tasks when they’re with their children
•  54% say it’s difficult for them to balance work and family responsibilities
