Brought to you by MetLife Pet Insurance and The Association for Animal Welfare Advancement, the Golden Beagle Award recognizes extraordinary efforts in animal welfare with a grant for $20,000. This year, the award will honor one outstanding animal welfare organization whose foster program has meaningfully expanded the ability to care for animals in need.

As shelters respond to increasing community needs and capacity challenges, foster caregivers step forward in remarkable ways to provide healing, socialization, safety, and second chances for all companion animal species. Encompassing everything from 2 a.m. kitten bottle feedings and providing safe haven for frightened large-breed dogs, recovering medical cases and neglected horses—and even the occasional reptilian escape artist—foster programs have become one of the most powerful and compassionate tools in modern animal welfare.

The Golden Beagle Award celebrates the organizations behind these lifesaving efforts — those willing to think creatively, remove barriers, and engage their communities to build and evolve foster programs that create measurable impact for animals and people alike.

The contest runs June 8 through June 30, 2026, and entering is simple. In 500 words or less, tell us about your foster program and the positive results you saw (data is always a plus!). Thank you for helping to advance foster care and inspiring others in the process.

The contest is open to animal shelters that operate as 501(c)(3) pet adoption facilities, whose principal place of business is in the United States or the District of Columbia.

Government agencies, please ask your 501(c)(3) charitable fundraising arm to submit on your behalf.
