Tip of the Week: What’s In a Name?
This simple act goes far in making folks feel appreciated
National Volunteer Appreciation Week kicks off April 19—are you ready? If your organization has lots of volunteers coming through your doors (kudos to you!), it may be tricky to remember their names—but making the extra effort to try is an important way to show your appreciation for their hard work.
A volunteer sign-in page can serve as a cheat sheet—every time a volunteer comes in, check the sheet for the person’s name and then use it in a friendly, personal greeting.
To foster a team environment, encourage staff—including leadership—to address volunteers by name as well.
How will you be showing volunteers the love this April? Leave a comment and let us know.

Love this! When I worked at a community shelter I always told staff – we pay volunteers in appreciation, and the simple act of acknowledging their presence goes a long long way. Minimum: eye contact. Medium: Smile: Amazing: Thank you NAME!
