Tip of the Week: Microchip Scanning Station Guide

June 17, 2026, The Association

Open Door Veterinary Collective’s snazzy resource can help you to reunite more lost pets with their families—without the animals ever having to enter your shelter

The numbers say it all: dogs with microchips are more than twice as likely to be returned to their owners, while microchipped cats are more than twenty times as likely to be returned to their owners.

You can help facilitate more reunions by building a microchip scanning station. To that end, Open Door Veterinary Collective has created a comprehensive, easy-to-use guide for setting one up, along with case studies and helpful tips. Get this 34-page illustrated resource here. And if you’ve already set up a station, please leave a note and share with your peers how it’s going.
