Meet The Rising Stars, Part 3
Meet the third in this dynamic constellation of emerging leaders
The Association’s President & CEO, Jim Tedford, recently urged leaders to bring their rising stars along with them to The Annual Conference next month. To sweeten the deal, when executive leadership nominates someone on their team, the emerging leader will receive a 50% discount on registration. We were so inspired by the responses that Jim received, and thought you would be, too.
Angela Ramiro, Vice President of Shelter Operations
San Francisco SPCA
Nominated by: Brandy Vause

I’m thrilled to nominate Angela Ramiro. It was actually Angela who brought this opportunity to my attention, demonstrating her own commitment to learning and professional development. Her background is primarily in a smaller rescue setting, and her work at SF SPCA requires that she deepen her understanding of large-scale shelter operations and leadership strategies so she can guide a much bigger team effectively. By developing these competencies, Angela will be well positioned to support a variety of types and sizes of animal welfare programs and organizations in the future.
I am impressed with Angela’s ability to receive and utilize feedback. When I asked her about her interest in attending The Conference, she said, “Continued leadership growth is important to me both for navigating the emotional demands of this work – for myself, our staff, and our volunteers, and for coaching the next generation of leaders. Also, I recently sat for the CAWA exam and didn’t pass, so I’m motivated to strengthen my knowledge before retesting.” Both the desire to receive the CAWA credential and her strategic approach to obtaining it demonstrate that she’s the type of curious, committed, self-reflective leader that we want to have in our field.
Angela even has gone so far as to identify specific sessions she plans to attend to support her learning, including “The Space Between: Rethinking the Leadership Leap, Defining the Leader You Want to Become” and “Mastering Government Relations: Strategies for Effective Advocacy and Collaboration in Animal Control.”
Thank you for extending this opportunity to Angela, to benefit the animals and people in our organization, our partner organizations, and the field of animal welfare.
