Tip of the Week: How To Tell A Kitten’s Age (and Get Engagement on Your Socials)
This triple-duty tip is a good one to share with your staff, foster volunteers, and social networks
With the Facebook algorithm making organic engagement more challenging than ever, we love seeing great content like this post from Purdue University College of Veterinary Medicine & Veterinary Hospital. “We use this in Shelter Medicine to help determine if kittens are old enough for certain vaccines,” they shared in the status update that accompanied the above photo, “and now you can use this chart to impress your friends with your kitten-age guessing skills!”
It’s no big surprise this post and its excellent visual went viral for Purdue. It may get you some good engagement, too. Reshare it on your socials and be sure to pass it on to to your staff and foster volunteers.

As a member of Purdue’s shelter med team, I want to point out that these images were taken from a fantastic chart made by UF’s shelter med team (https://sheltermedicine.vetmed.ufl.edu/files/2011/11/aging-kittens.pdf). The chart has even more information than Purdue’s post, so consider sharing that chart instead.
Thank you so much for letting us know!
