Tip of the Week: Shelter Care Specialist Certification Program
Are you a shelter team member on the frontlines, or do you manage staff who are? This program can take them, and you, to the next level
Applications are being accepted through Friday, June 12, for the online Shelter Care Specialist Certificate Program Summer 2026 session. This free six-week training from The Koret Shelter Medicine Program and Maddie’s Fund, which takes place July 13 to August 24, covers foundational shelter best practices, medical and behavioral care, and skills to support veterinary professionals.
As space is limited in this popular program, the Summer session will prioritize applicants from medium-to-larger public or private shelters that hold stray intake contracts and must take in both dogs and cats.
You may still apply if your shelter doesn’t meet these criteria, with an understanding that your application may be saved for a future cohort. Smaller shelters will also be considered as space is available.
