This just-released study provides actionable insights to better address adopters’ needs and your community’s concerns
2024 marks the fourth consecutive year shelters across the nation are facing levels at or over capacity. You know more than anyone the need for further data-driven insights to understand your community’s needs, and their perceptions about your services.
For the second year in a row, Hill’s State of Shelter Pet Adoption Report offers findings from a survey of 2,500 socio-economically diverse current and prospective pet owners. Top takeaways include:
- 84% of respondents cited vet care as the most expensive part of owning a pet
- 56% of respondents making under $50K are significantly more likely to have experienced at least one pet restriction in their housing
- 64% of prospective fosters say they’d be likely to foster if care costs were covered
- 94% of pet owners considering relinquishment kept their pet after receiving support
