In Memoriam: Jeanne Werner-Spaulding

November 12, 2023, The Association

Former Association Board Member and Animal Welfare Veteran Has Passed Away

We wish to honor the legacy of Jeanne Werner-Spaulding, a veteran leader and trailblazing woman in the animal welfare profession, who passed away on November 5 in Tacoma, WA.

Jeanne was one of the first female officers on the Board of Directors for The Association for Animal Welfare Advancement (then known as SAWA)—and only the second woman to serve as Board Chair. “Many of us have stood proudly on her strong shoulders as she lifted us up for a better view of what is possible in animal welfare,” shares Jim Tedford, The Association’s President & CEO. “Her intelligence and business acumen were matched only by her wicked sense of humor and charming personality.”

Continues Jim, “Jeanne worked hard for many years.  I’m so thankful that she found fulfillment in her well-earned retirement years. She will be sorely missed, but her memory will live on in the DNA of those of us fortunate enough to have been mentored by Jeanne.”

Friends and colleagues are invited to share memories with her family through her online obituary. Memorial contributions may be made to the Humane Society for Tacoma and Pierce County.
