Meet The Rising Stars, Part 2

October 1, 2025, The Association

Meet the second in this star-studded lineup of emerging leaders

The Association’s President & CEO, Jim Tedford, recently invited his colleagues in the field to join him at The Annual Conference in Atlanta this November. “I’m writing today not just to invite you to The Annual Conference—but to ask you to help shape the future of animal welfare,” wrote Tedford. “I’m inviting you to bring your best and brightest, your most promising along with you.”

Tedford urged leaders to nominate a rising star, and that emerging leader would receive a 50% discount on their conference registration. We were so inspired by both the nominators and the nominees, and thought you would be, too.

Meghan Dillmore, Director of Shelter Services
Humane Society of Boulder Valley

Nominated by: Kat Burns, CVPM, CAWA, CEO

Meghan is what we affectionately call a “boomerang employee” – she began her career with the Humane Society of Boulder Valley, left to learn and grow at other organizations, and then returned “home” with expanded skills and great ideas to share.

Since rejoining HSBV last fall as our Director of Shelter Services, Meghan’s leadership impact has been immediate. She brings exceptional skills in animal sheltering and welfare, operations, and people leadership, along with an ability to navigate complex decisions in animal and client care.

Now she’s stretching her talents by managing a large departmental budget, inspiring her growing leadership team and front line staff, and leading the overhaul of our emergency & disaster incident command system. She is active in local and statewide shelter coalitions, building important partnerships.

On top of all that, she’s a wonderful human being and colleague. Meghan is absolutely a Rising Star to watch, and we’re so lucky to have her back on the HSBV team.

Thanks for giving me the opportunity to sing her praises!

Kat Burns, CVPM, CAWA, Chief Executive Officer, Humane Society of Boulder Valley

Leaders, if you haven’t yet had a chance, there’s still time to nominate your rising star and receive discounted registration at The Annual Conference. Submit here.
