Meet The Rising Stars, Part I
Last month, we asked current leaders in the field to identify the emerging leaders at their organizations. Meet the first in this star-studded lineup
Last month, The Association’s President & CEO, Jim Tedford, invited his colleagues in the field to join him at The Annual Conference in Atlanta this November. “I’m writing today not just to invite you to The Annual Conference—but to ask you to help shape the future of animal welfare,” wrote Tedford. “I’m inviting you to bring your best and brightest, your most promising along with you.”
Tedford urged leaders to nominate a rising star, and that emerging leader would receive a 50% discount on their conference registration. We were so inspired by both the nominators and the nominees, and thought you would be, too. We’re thrilled to introduce the first Rising Star.
Megan Winters-Field, Harbor Humane Society
Nominated by: Jen Self-Aulgur, Executive Director

When I started as the ED 9 years ago, Megan was our customer service manager. I was walking into a bit of a chaotic environment, and I asked Megan to give me six months to improve things. She is still here, and is now our Director of Shelter Operations. The growth and leadership I have seen in Megan is nothing short of astounding. As leaders, we want to see the people we work with succeed, grow, and be amazing, and that has been my experience with Megan. Always willing to learn, willing to see things in new lights, and able to change her perspective. She is now one of the thought leaders on our team—always coming with new ideas and ways to make things better for our staff and our animals. Megan is truly an animal welfare badass, and I look forward to seeing her continue to grow and inspire those around her!
